  23. 1.0     Introduction
  24.  
  25. This product was developed by Panacea Inc. exclusively for use with
  26. ATI's family of mach64 accelerators.  This version of TurboDLD is 
  27. designed to specifically support DOS versions of AutoCAD 10/386, 
  28. 11, 12, and 13.  It also support 3D Studio 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 
  29. AutoShade with Renderman 2.0.
  30.  
  31. The TurboDLDClassic's main function is to speed up AutoCAD pans, zooms, 
  32. and redraws.  The driver accomplishes this by creating and maintaining 
  33. a Display List - a fast-displaying object list of the current drawing 
  34. - which dramatically increase the performance of AutoCAD.
  35.  
  36. TurboDLDClassic was designed to be an easy-to-use, feature-filled product
  37. that makes using AutoCAD faster and more productive, not more complicated
  38. or difficult to use.
  39.  
  40. Configuration for these programs basically involves selecting the proper 
  41. Display and Rendering resolutions from the configuration menu. The other
  42. driver configuration options (except for font selection options for 3D 
  43. Studio) are ignored for rendering because a Display List (and its con-
  44. figuration parameters) is not used during the rendering process.

  48. 2.0     Tips/Limitations
  49.  
  50. [2.1]    FONT Selection
  51. ----------------------
  52. Enabling .BDF Fonts
  53.    In order to enable .BDF font support in TurboDLD, you must either
  54.    start AutoCAD from your main AutoCAD sub-directory, or set the DLDFONT
  55.    environment variable prior to starting AutoCAD. Syntax of DLDFONT is:
  56.  
  57.         SET DLDFONT = {FONTDIR}
  58.  
  59.    where {FONTDIR} is the full path name to the sub-directory which
  60.    contains the .BDF fonts.
  61.  
  62.    If DLDFONT is not set, TurboDLD will look for a \DRV directory
  63.    in the default AutoCAD directory. If .BDF fonts are not found
  64.    in the DRV directory, then only Panacea supplied font options
  65.    will be available.

  67. Choosing .BDF Fonts
  68.    To use a .BDF font in TurboDLD, choose the Basic Configuration menu
  69.    "Select Font From List" option to display a list of available fonts.
  70.    The list will contain available fonts, limited by the settings of the
  71.    DLDFONT environment variable and the font filter chosen in the Basic
  72.    Configuration menu Select Font Filter option.
  73.  
  74. Limiting Font Selections
  75.    If you have many .BDF fonts on your system and you wish to select only
  76.    a certain style of font, TurboDLD offers a filtering mechanism to allow
  77.    you to select only a certain types of fonts based on their internal
  78.    CHARSET_REGISTRY name or Code Page definition.
  79.  
  80.    To select a specific .BDF font type, from the Basic Configuration menu,
  81.    use the Select Font Filer option and then select an available .BDF font
  82.    type. If you wish to see all installed fonts, choose All Fonts. Your
  83.    font filter will be in effect when you select the Select Font Filter
  84.    menu option.

  86. Font Size and AutoCAD
  87.    When using a font size in which the height is more than twice the width
  88.    (i.e., 7x15) you may experience text and other display problems within
  89.    some dialogs. This is due to the way AutoCAD calculates display positions
  90.    using font character values.

  93. [2.2]    GRAPHICS Mode Text
  94. --------------------------
  95. Problems selecting menu items in R12 or R13
  96.    If TurboDLD is configured for "Text Window on Single" and RCONFIG is 
  97.    used to configure AVE Render, you may have problems selecting menu 
  98.    items. If this happens, type CTRL-C to exit RCONFIG and return to the 
  99.    AutoCAD drawing editor. Then reconfigure TurboDLD for "Single" screen 
  100.    operation and then run RCONFIG again.
  101.  
  102.    In R13, use of the "Text Window on Single" and doing an RCONFIG may 
  103.    blank the selections in the side menus. They will reappear after 
  104.    configuration is complete and you have hit the F1 key. 
  105.  
  106. Networked AutoCAD Installations
  107.    On a networked AutoCAD Release 12 system, if the maximum number
  108.    of users is reached, an alert dialog box is displayed. When
  109.    using TurboDLD in the "Single" screen mode an abnormal AutoCAD
  110.    termination may occur instead of the alert dialog box. If you think 
  111.    this may be a problem, configure TurboDLD for the "Text Window on 
  112.    Single" option.

  114. WCEdit appears to hang
  115.    Elsa's WCEdit utility may appear to hang when TurboDLD is configured 
  116.    for the "Text Window on Single" mode. In fact, WCEdit has not hung - 
  117.    instead it is waiting for user input. When the TurboDLD text window is 
  118.    enabled, WCEdit still thinks TurboDLD is in a text-mode screen and tries 
  119.    to write directly to it. This will not work. Press Ctrl-X to return to 
  120.    AutoCAD from WCEdit.

  122.    If you wish to use WCEdit with TurboDLD, configure for "Single"
  123.    screen mode.

  126. [2.3]    AutoCAD
  127. ---------------
  128. AutoCAD Command Line Cursor
  129.    A "-" cursor has been added to the AutoCAD Command line to identify the
  130.    current AutoCAD cursor location.
  131.  
  132. Lines overwrite menu areas
  133.    In some instances, lines may overwrite AutoCAD menu areas. To restore
  134.    the menu areas, you may either do a flip-screen to the text screen or
  135.    issue the new TurboDLD command DLDRESTORE.

  137. Dialog Commands
  138.    If the AutoCAD Release 12/13 file and command dialog box usage is
  139.    disabled (i.e. setting CMDIA = 0 and FILEDIA = 0 ) and a drawing
  140.    with an unresolved XREF is opened from the text screen, an error
  141.    or system hang will occur. This is a bug with AutoCAD and ADI
  142.    drivers. To avoid this, use the Text Window on Single configuration
  143.    option.

  145. Digitizer and/or plotter problems
  146.    Please be aware that there is a C2 revision to AutoCAD Release 12.
  147.    This revision corrects various digitizer and plotter problems.

  149. Text Windows
  150.    "Text Window on Single" Pop-up Text Window is not supported for 
  151.    AutoCAD rel. 10/386 and release 11.
  152.  
  153. Unsupported functions under AutoCAD R10/386   
  154.    Due to the manner in which AutoCAD Release 10/386 works, the TurboDLD 
  155.    Deluxe functions DLDSCOPE and DLDBPMODE, as well as the MACH-12 
  156.    compatible ZI, ZO commands are not currently supported in this TurboDLD 
  157.    release when using AutoCAD Release 10/386.

  160. [2.4]    3D Studio Limitations
  161. -----------------------------
  162. Large fonts at 640x480
  163.    If you are using a 640x480 resolution mode, the font size has to be
  164.    smaller than 8x16. This can be changed in the Display Device 
  165.    Configuration Main Menu's sub-directory BASIC CONFIGURATION's sub-
  166.    directory SELECT FONT FORM LIST.

  168.    The ADI3DS.BAT file copied to your TurboDLD sub-directory during
  169.    installation is used for 3D Studio configuration.  This file should
  170.    be run prior to starting 3D Studio.

  173. [2.5]    GENERAL Information
  174. ---------------------------
  175. Low resource systems
  176.    If you have low amounts of CPU RAM and less than 20Mb of available
  177.    hard disk space you should use the -SWAPCHK ON switch to configure
  178.    AutoCAD. This switch will give you the option of saving your drawing 
  179.    when AutoCAD runs out of swap space.   The way you configure this is to 
  180.    change into your AutoCAD program sub-directory and at the prompt type:

  182.         CFIG386 ACAD -SWAPCHK ON
  183.  
  184. Rendering Resolution Options
  185.    The Rendering screen configuration menu will be available only when
  186.    configuring the Rendering screens of AVE Render, AutoShade 2 with
  187.    RenderMan or 3D Studio.
  188.  
  189.    Also note that TurboDLD is a combined Display/Rendering driver
  190.    therefore, you should select that option from AVE Render's
  191.    configuration menu.

  193. Color Considerations
  194.    In DLDCOLOR Object mode, when changing the background color, the
  195.    new background color is swapped with the old in order to eliminate
  196.    the possibility of having a Drawing color the same as the background
  197.    color, causing a blank screen.
  198.  
  199.    You may change the highlight color selection for the side bar menus
  200.    using DLDCOLOR in Object mode.

  205. 3.0     Known Issues
  206.  
  207. [3.1]    AutoCAD
  208. ---------------
  209. Menu highlighter turns red in Release 10/11/12/13
  210.    In 256 color modes, the menu area highlighter may turn to the color
  211.    red. Use the command DLDCOLOR to reset the high-lighter to the
  212.    desired color.
  213.  
  214. Red cross hairs on the rendering screen
  215.    When using Release 12 and 13 in all 256 color mode, when you render
  216.    using the "AutoCAD's configured P386 ADI combined display/render driver" 
  217.    to the display viewport, the cross hairs turn to the color red 
  218.    on the render screen.
  219.  
  220.    In Release 12, if you want to render to the display viewport screen 
  221.    you must make sure the render and display screens are set in the 
  222.    same modes to avoid color changes in cursor.

  224. Replay rendered drawings corrupt
  225.    In Release 13c2, several hi-color mode (such as 640x480 16M and 
  226.    640x480 65K) may not replay a saved    rendered drawing correctly.
  227.  
  228. Mouse Problems in Release 13
  229.    The TurboDigitizer has problem when you have Microsoft Mouse Driver 
  230.    version 9.x loaded.  The problem was caused by the mouse driver 
  231.    returning incorrect button press information.  The TurboDigitizer 
  232.    is okay with other versions of the Microsoft Mouse Driver, such as
  233.    version 7.04, version 8.20 and version 10.0, also known as Microsoft 
  234.    Mouse with Intellipoint software version 1.0.
  235.  
  236. Avoid pressing two buttons of the mouse at the same time, use only 
  237.    the right mouse button to get the "big picture" view.  Pressing two
  238.    button at the same time will cause an internal error message.

  240. Cursor Problem in Release 13
  241.    If you encounter cursor problem in 1280x1024 256 colors in Release 13,
  242.    the easiest solution is to delete the ACAD.CFG file and re-configure 
  243.    AutoCAD. This problem is caused by the ACAD.CFG file becoming corrupted.

  245. Resolution 800x600 16.7M color mode not available
  246.    In some configurations, this mode is not available.  This mode requires
  247.    800x600x32bpp setting for accelerated drawing.  If the mode is not
  248.    available, fall back to 640x480 16.7M color mode.

  250. Cursor color problem in 800x600 and 1024x768 at 16.7million colors modes
  251.    In some old ISA and VLB mach64 boards, the color of the cursor changes
  252.    from white to black.

  255. [3.2]    3D Studio
  256. -----------------
  257. Delay starting 3D Studio
  258.    Boards that have eeprom bios support will experience a 40 seconds delay 
  259.    when initializing 3D Studio. The delay is caused by initial bios checking
  260.    in 3D Studio. This is a limitation of 3D Studio.

  262. Cursor color problem in 800x600 and 1024x768 at 16.7million colors modes
  263.    In some old ISA and VLB mach64 boards, the color of the cursor changes
  264.    from white to black.
